Dimout Dimout Restrictions Satisfied By Police

Police report dimout regulations from San Clemente to Seal Beach last week were effective. Chief Lee Howard and Captain Meehan noted a few citations, two drunk drivers and one reckless driver, with 12 auxiliary officers and three state highway patrolmen assisting. Sunset Laguna San Clemente Seal Beach were checked and Sunday action higher. all Coast Highway traffic was stopped and drivers cooperated. Dimout rules remain in effect and drivers are urged to drive with utmost caution.

Women to be Trained In Civilian Defense

Mr. Ben Lieberman Orange County Civilian Defense Coordinator urges local councils to train women as air raid wardens and equip them for defense tasks now handled by men. He says councils should sustain public morale and maximize support for the government in the war effort.

Registration Light For Fifth R Day

The fifth R Day turnout was light with 45 youths aged eighteen and nineteen registering at city hall on Tuesday June 30. Chief registrar Mrs Fronia Robinson said most men registered in the morning and many likely registered at their places of employment.

Arm Bands For Defense Volunteers To Be Issued Soon

Local civilian defense volunteers will soon receive arm bands. Secretary F W Hickman of the Seal Beach Defense Council says all county cities will get bands shortly. Air raid wardens are due by week’s end, and auxiliary firemen policemen medical and staff corps bands should arrive by late next week.

Seal Beach Rubber Drive Exceeds Five Tons

Seal Beach residents contributed more than five tons of scrap rubber in a two week national drive. The effort, though strong, falls short of targets and has been extended until July 10 by order of President Roosevelt. Citizens are urged to collect every ounce of recoverable rubber for military and civilian use.

County Arranges For Camouflage In The Absence Of Wills

The Orange County Defense Council meeting in Santa Ana was led by Ben Lieberman, civilian defense coordinator, as Wills Warner was absent. The Orange County Builders Exchange will appoint a county chairman to study camouflage options per Army guidance and report back with community recommendations.

Beach Association Expands Plans for Coastal Growth

The Shoreline Planning Association of California Inc. seeks July 15 meeting led by treasurer director L A Dan Patch to discuss widening membership beyond six southern counties. The group, formed to acquire beach properties for public use, passed four bills in the last legislature to enable engineering and financial support and aims to boost activity for postwar property improvements.

Fish Weaken Under Lure of Sunday Bait

In Seal Beach last weekend anglers enjoyed good fishing with large crowds. Mrs. Robert Wilkinson of Montebello caught a sixteen and a half pound halibut while Doc Sidell landed nine sea trout. Several other sizeable catches kept the crowd satisfied with the angling at Seal Beach.

Fire scares ease as weeds cleared on city lots

Fire Chief Knight notes grass fires were highlighted by two blazes last week. One fire began at 16th and Landing on Monday, a second at 12th and Ocean on Wednesday afternoon. Both were quickly extinguished with no trouble, and weed clearing soon underway should relieve the menace.

Decontamination Units Urged by County Council

The Orange County Defense Council asks the Board of Supervisors to acquire two mobile gas decontamination units ready for immediate dispatch anywhere in the county in case of gas attacks. With Santa Ana air base cooperation, trained military personnel would operate them, and the council hopes each city will establish at least one unit.

Cars Collide Autos in Hospital

Poor lighting from a dimout caused a local crash on Sunday night at Second Street and Highway 101 in Long Beach. Clifford H. Grafft and Robert W. Hall, both of Long Beach, were driving the vehicles. Grafft was turning left when Hall struck him. Neither driver was injured and both cars were towed to the State Highway garage for repair.

New First Aid Stations Set in Local Homes

A new first aid station opens at the residence of Mrs. Frances C Mitchell, 2018 Electric Lane. Another station moves from Mrs. Pazant at 118 12th Street to Mrs. Adelaide Marshall, 128 12th Street.
