Sunset Beach Tide Destroys Homes and Damages Rail Line

High tides at Sunset Beach washed away pilings ten feet deep and a foot square, undermining houses. Two homes toppled into the sea. workers reinforce front-line properties. Orange County road crews and Pacific Electric Railway workers strive to salvage the roadbed as yesterday’s tide ruined two railroad stretches on the Seal Beach peninsula.

C A Miller to Lead Orange County Coast Group

Orange County Coast Association plans a January 17 luncheon at Christian's Hut Bay Front Balboa. Officers for a fourteenth year will be elected, including C A Miller of Seal Beach for president and L A Patch for first vice president. Honorary vice Presidents listed, with more expected. Meeting marks a shift from monthly Tuesday nights to a daytime luncheon due to night driving concerns.

December Defense Bond and Stamp Sales at Seal Beach Post Office

Postmaster Michael J. Collins reports December sales reached 7850 dollars in Defense Bonds and 1234 dollars in stamps at the Seal Beach post office. Most bonds sold were in small denominations, indicating more transactions and more customers.

Smashing Tides Wreck Homes in Sunset Beach

The Anaheim Bay peninsula area saw mild effects with washed sand and debris. Sunset Beach suffered serious damage including the complete loss of two homes and heavy damage to two others. Specific losses included Arthur Czerwonky’s home at 2650 Ocean Front and Albert R. Stein Jr.’s residence. A.J. Casner’s bedroom was washed away while Albert B. Stein’s large stucco home, raised on jacks, remained untouched. Surf Side Colony reported no home damage though streets were affected, and county crews worked to save damaged street ends at Sunset Beach with sandbagging efforts.

Seal Beach School Prepares for Air Raid Alarms

Neal Beach School officials announce plans to keep pupils inside earthquake resistant buildings during air raid alarms. Teachers will stay with their classes. improvements include reinforced blinds and boarded windows. McGaugh says full details to come, with parent notices likely next week.

Seal Beach School Reports Enrollment Drop After Holidays

Seal Beach Elementary records 3385 pupils, down seven from the previous report before the Christmas holidays. The indicator reflects a slight decline in district enrollment following the break.
