Meeting Friday Women Wardens

Dimout Decree Sets Uniform War Time Dimout Rules

The army proclamation establishing a dimout effective August 20 will be accepted by the public as a necessary war measure. In Orange County and nearby coastal areas it will largely align with existing practices, extend limits, and reduce confusion over where dimout rules apply. Violations carry extreme penalties including possible immediate exclusion from the Western Defense Command territory and prosecution under Law No. 503.

Extended Tire Quota Grants Recaps to14 Applicants

The local Rationing Board approved extended tire quotas last Friday for fourteen applicants. Recaps were awarded to Reverend John McFadden, Marion Dickey, Douglas Strickland, and Jesse Vasquez from Los Alamitos, plus Adiel Van Kiersbuleck of Westminster. Seal Beach defense workers Wallace Tweeten, Ross Morrison, Frank Upham, Herbert Schlicting, Floyd Phelps, Charles Holman, and Glenn Peters received certificates. The I. W. Hellman ranch gained one truck recap, the City of Seal Beach one new tire, and Leonard Goudge, a Seal Beach defense worker, was authorized to buy a new automobile.

Police Court Nets $16 From Monday Session

Six dollars in traffic fines and a $10 bail forfeit were the net proceeds of Monday's police court session according to Judge Fred J. Smith. Donald Gordon paid $3 for illegal parking Sunday. Charles McKesson contributed $3 for driving without an operator's license. Alma Beattie of Long Beach forfeited $10 bail for failure to appear on intoxication charges.

Bonita Shark Caught Off Seal Beach Pier

A huge Bonita shark weighing about 100 pounds and measuring five feet seven inches was caught off the Seal Beach Pier on Tuesday by K. F. Wharton of Harbor City.

High School Places Men in Defense Work

Huntington Beach Union High School District staffs its shop to train workers for war industries. About 20 to 30 men are placed monthly after short courses in machine shop or electric welding, with pathways to aircraft factories and shipyards. Since seven months into the program some 250 students have been trained or are in training. 85 men are currently in classes.

Boat Mystery Draws FBI Attention at Seal Beach

Two empty boats washed ashore near Seal Beach sparked an FBI and local police inquiry. A six foot craft found by lifeguard Lloyd Pierpont at Third Street had three seats and no oars, while a sixteen foot boat at Sunset Beach bore no marks. Navy signalman Carl Schmitt reported a horizon light with possible coded messages observed at sea.

City Revenues From July Fines and Licenses Totals

Police reports show 32 arrests in July raising 361.55 in city revenues from fines by City Judge Fred Smith. From city court, 295.55 went to the street improvement fund and 65 to the general fund. Police collected 1831 from licenses.

Service Women Host Home Starved Service Men Dinner

In Seal Beach two civic groups organized a home like gathering for local service men. Red Cross camp chairman A W Armstrong led the event with Captain Dora Jones Lieutenant Francis Mitchell and Louise Collier of the Woman's Club coordinating. A rabbit dinner was served at 5 30 pm to forty one men in a casual setting, with neighbors from the community joining in.

Salvage Drive Starts Friday for War Materials

Salvage drive begins Friday in Seal Beach to collect fats and metals for the war effort. The Irvine Market and West Coast Meat Co will pay regular prices for fats, which should be strained and stored in a metal container. Community groups urged to gather small amounts from neighbors and bring items to the city truck Friday for pickup or the salvage station on Thirteenth Street.

Girl Hurt in Sunday Seal Beach Motorcycle Crash

A Sunday motorcycle crash on the state highway near Glide Inn left a young girl badly injured after being ejected from the tandem seat. Lena Myers, of Huntington Park, drove the car struck by Ludwig Krauss of Burbank, with Barbara Van Atta also of Burbank aboard. The victim remained unconscious and doctors warned skull fracture could not be ruled out.
