Loomis Rejects Arbitration Over Mine Wage Disputes
Superintendent E F Loomis of the Delaware Lackawanna and Western mining department calls any general arbitration on miners wages absurd and impractical. He says uniform wages cannot fit diverse veins and argues arbitration would imply union recognition. He adds the company will negotiate with its own workers and pursue adjustments rather than arbitration with Mine Workers.
