In Plainfield New Jersey on October 28 Heyward Boccurt a popular young society man was found dead in bed at Mrs Desigroughs home on Central Avenue. Death is believed from an overdose of morphine used to ease neuralgia pains. He was four years old and the son of Mrs Henry Paul of Trenton.
Chief Foley of Mount Vernon reports New York City detectives arrested three men believed to be the assailants in the Bertine case. J H Bertine and his daughter Meg will visit the central office tomorrow morning to identify the suspects.
New York singer Lillian Blauvelt travels to Fargo North Dakota for divorce from Royal Smith after years of marriage. Blauvelt, a Brooklyn native, rose to fame as a soprano with prominent concert groups and had planned opera debut with Henry Abbey. The couple’s separation follows scattered illness and rumored European plans for health and travel.
In Pottsville Pennsylvania on October 28 Patrick Baylan drew a knife during a heated discussion at Locust Gap and stabbed Frank Roarity and a man named Moore. Roarity’s wounds are feared fatal. Baylan was jailed awaiting word on Roarity’s condition.
Du gand Crawford a Broadway dry goods merchant was tried in the criminal court before Judge Murphy on charges of attempting to interfere with employees voting their political rights. The prosecution failed to prove a strong case and Crawford was discharged on a technicality.
President Hopkins of the New York Susquehanna and Western says there is nothing to confirm a Philadelphia rumor that the Wilkes-Barre and Eastern or NY Susquehanna and Western will come under Pennsylvania control. He notes Susquehanna stock is widely scattered and control would require open-market action.
An audit of Lansdale Trust Co reveals Henry J. Smith, president, is $15,000 to $4,000 short in accounts. No trace of Smith is found. Officials say the shortage will not affect the bank’s solvency.
