In Canton on October 21 Major McKinley greeted about 3 500 Garfield club members and friends from Poland township Ohio and Lowellville. The crowd arrived by four trains with brass bands and glee clubs, blocking North Market street while McKinley spoke of patriotism and shared memories of his boyhood. Illinois delegates and labor leaders praised him and the night ended with torch-lit demonstrations and further remarks.
Tom Watson spoke at Capital Park in Birmingham to about 2,500 listeners. He avoided attacks on Sewall, praising reform but arguing his party cannot back a plutocrat. He condemned corporate encroachment while stressing populist aims.
U S minister to Turkey A W Terrell tells AP that no American citizens were injured in the recent Constantinople massacres and predicts the United States will continue its policy of non intervention in Turkey's internal affairs.

Joseph Baker Charles Baker and Herman Hoopes of Philadelphia and Warren S Williams of Beverly each hold ten shares of forty. Capital stock two million dollars with four thousand paid in, preferred stock 8 percent dividend. The firm will purchase, sell and refine sugar and molasses.
New York reports arrivals and departures as ships reach and depart key ports. Lahn arrives from Bremen and Southampton with Karlsruhe also from Bremen. Sailed include St Paul to Southampton Aachen to Bremen Majesty to Liverpool and State of Nebraska to Glasgow. Arrived out includes St Louis and Trave at Southampton while Hoevel Spaardam depart for New York.
Yale defeated Wesleyan 14 to 9 on Yale field with Captain Murphy's team scoring three times. The standout was Yale substitute Goodwin who scored both touchdowns in the second half, including a 45 yard run. Sibley and Raymond led Wesleyan's best efforts.
