Harrisburg pa Oct 14 The state council Daughters of Liberty spent much of the session debating amendments to the by laws and constitution. At 10 45 this morning balloting for officers for the ensuing year was completed.

Johnstown Pennsylvania October 4 Reverend J W Shaeffer Lutheran minister of Homer City Indiana County is held on charges of adultery and assault against Annie Peiddicord a 17 year old girl who served in his home. The girl says the minister smothered her cries and bribed her to stay silent with presents. Bail set at 1000 dollars.
In Hazleton Pennsylvania a foggy night collision between a locomotive and a trolley car killed three men and injured many others. Victims include David Williams of Plymouth William Stapleton of Milton and Jefferson Kirsehmer of Hazleton. The coroner will investigate the crash which occurred as the trolley crossed the track after stopping to load a mail bag.
In Columbus Georgia on February 14 Jacob White and his son Henry killed three police officers after summoning them to a recorder hearing. Richard Adams was fatally shot, Willian Jameson was wounded but survived, and Officer Roberts died from a stomach wound. The Whites were confronted by a posse. Tom Jackson and Zeno Pickett killed Jacob White, Pickett mortally wounded. Henry White was captured in Alabama and jailed, with fears of lynching.
A crowd of twelve carloads of Republicans from Macdonald Washington county Pa arrive in Canton to greet Major McKinley. The reception features a silk flag from the circus delegation and remarks praising American prosperity, credit and a protective tariff. Other groups include Early Settlers of Cleveland and Cumberland Md visitors, plus a Toronto and New England contingent.

Archbishop John Ireland of St Paul arrived in Washington with Bishop McGoldrick of Duluth and met Mgr Martinelli. He stated there is a time to speak and a time to be silent, while noting the political tension in Minnesota where farmers and workingmen lean toward Bryan despite McKinley buttons.
The Seventh district Republican convention in Frankfort Kentucky met this afternoon and nominated Colonel C P Breckinridge for Congress with no opposition.

Mrs. Ellen Loomis aged 100 began a thirty mile walk from Elmira to Canton to visit her daughter Mrs. Fassett. Ten miles from Canton she collapsed and died beside the road, found numb and unconscious.
Lehigh edged Rutgers 17 to 14 in a rain soaked game at Bethlehem, with the outcome decided late in the fourth quarter. Both teams battled wet field conditions as fans braved the storm for a close rivalry win.
