Fleming faces murder charges in the death of her mother, and her relatives had blocked the inheritance until acquittal.
The American Protective Association supreme council, 260 members strong, meets in Washington May 12 to elect officers and discuss policy. Expected topics include free silver advocacy, national monetary policy, and potential headquarters move from Chicago to Washington.
The negro Irving Ford, arrested yesterday at Harper's Ferry for the murder of Elsie Kregla in Washington last Monday, admits killing her by slashing her throat after she threw a stone at him. The defendants pleaded not guilty and witnesses said the men were unarmed and offered no resistance. The prosecution urged death sentences while defense counsel sought acquittal or mercy.

Chief Clerk J. Bawyer of the local surveyor’s office escaped injury in a peculiar accident this morning as his celluloid cigar holder exploded while he smoked. The blast released the holder and cigar, loosening a tooth and sending him fleeing in fear of a gunshot. Investigation showed the celluloid holder ignited by the burning cigar.
