A permanent committee elected Keppelman Torrey Saltzman Cochran Fragman Shollenberger and Hummer, with Keppelman presiding, outlined plans for rules and possible charter models. Mayor Elliott urged more police protection and a committee was formed to draft convention rules. The group adjourned to reconvene tomorrow.
A boiler blast on a Delaware Susquehanna and Schuylkill coal train between Gum Hun and Derringer in Hazleton Pa. kills four crewmen instantly and injures a fifth. Victims John Chambers engineer Jonas Stewart fireman Frank O Donnell brakeman Michael Boyle conductor William Timony severely injured all residents of Freeland. Timony survives after rescue. Cause unknown.
At the Philadelphia conference the Bishop John F Murat spoke on freeing Cuba noting its inhabitants deserve liberty as Mexico. he condemned Armenian atrocities. The Woman's Home Missionary Society observed its anniversary in Union Church with several prominent women delivering addresses. Evening programs included a meeting by the education society.
A steamer was seen four miles off the beach at unknown Spain yesterday noon. It freed itself by four o clock and headed north with a large crowd watching from shore. Local officers fear the ship was burned and the crew lost as contact was impossible through miles of floating debris.
Albany March 11 The senate voted closure on the ales excise bill with 21 to ms passage. Senator Flames claims the act will curb corruption in excise boards stamp out shady gin operations and cut Sunday selling violations by saloonkeepers. He believes drinking places will drop 26 to 40 percent though license fee hikes protect revenue.
Federal grand jury indicted General Calixto Garcia Captain Samuel Hughes John D.E. Hart Captain John Hrobason Bernardo J. Bueno and Benjamin J. Guerra of the Bermuda expedition for taking part in an armed expedition contrary to neutrality laws. They posted full cash bail and were discharged with bonds good until the second Wednesday in May.
Harriburg Pa March 11 The Democratic county committee adopted a resolution endorsing President Cleveland and former Governor Pattison for the presidency while voting down resolutions backing National Chairman Harrity and advocating the unit rule.
Corbett signed articles with the National Sporting Club of London to meet Firesimmons in Cleveland next June for a $1000 purse. The winner will claim the prize.
The Republican state convention in Columbus adopts a platform praising national Republican victories and protectionist policy. It denounces the Democratic administration, endorses McKinley for president, and pledges Ohio's loyal support and instructed delegates. Delegates-at-large include Foraker and Dushnell with McKinley favored, plus alternates and electors chosen.
Williamsport Pa March 11 A head on collision on the Northern Central railroad at Penbryn last night left Brakeman Van Neat of Flimra dead and Fireman Roy Cummings fatally injured. The north bound freight attempted to take a siding before the regular southbound train. The coroner's jury censured railroad employes for care.

Theresa Young told police an attempt was made to burn her house and injure inmates. She found a partially burned kitchen area and an empty bottle coal in a bucket ashes. She says her husband threatened her life after a separation last fall. warrants were issued and he was jailed. He denies the charge.
Five hour clash near Monteguelo, near Manta, pitted Tluvana Marek Jr bands of Insiur frenis led by Oliva and Hernandez against Spanish troops. Government forces reported five wounded while rebels suffered sixteen killed. Montegueto town burned by insurgents. Macegua and nearby towns attacked and partially burned.
C L Magee of the Pittsburg Times and Senator William Flinn filed a libel information today in Pittsburg before Alderman McMasters alleging the Pittsburg Commercial Gazette published a false defamatory article. The piece claimed Magee and Flinn conspired with Cleveland millionaire Mark Slanna to back Meinley for president and that they received 150000 dollars for the effort.
March 11 report from Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania states W. Harrington chief electrician for Cox Brothers was struck blind cleaning an arc light at the Roan Junction plant which began operation last night wires crossed causing a short circuit and a burst of flame. Separately in Washington President Cleveland sailed at 1 o'clock for a duck hunting trip to Widewater Virginia on the Potomac.
New York March 11 John J Hoey famed sportsman and referee died at Long Branch this afternoon from heart trouble after a severe grip attack.

Paterson police hold silk maker Nicholas Cole as a suspect in the murder of Mary Sullivan the music teacher. Cole serves a 30 day jail term for assault nearby delaying release and coroners inquest is expected. grand jury set to meet in April.
Carrie Elliston aged 20 from Stull registered as Lena Hill of Berwick at the Grand Central hotel. After dinner she was found moaning in her room with the door forced open and gas turned on. she died later the same day.
The assignment of the firm Hotechild, Baum & Stern, a large wholesale cloth house in Rochester, was filed today. The liabilities are estimated between $3,400 and $1,040, with no preferred creditors.
