The Abyssinian expedition led by William Fite Hugh Whitehouse of Newport R I has safely returned to Mombasa on the east coast of Africa. The party sailed to explore Lake Rudolf and reached Mombasa on June 16 after departing earlier from London.

In Denver on June 1 the state court of appeals ruled that the Associated Press franchise is not taxable property. The ruling upholds a lower court decision shielding the Associated Press papers from a $25,000 assessment sought by the Rocky Mountain News to tax the service’s city franchise.

Admiral Dewey and Mrs. Dewey arrived by special train from Detroit to Grand Rapids Mich. They were greeted by a large throng, saluted with 17 guns, and driven to the Morton house. They later toured suburbs with Mayor Perry and Congressman Smith, attended a city hall reception, and a planned monument pageant for tomorrow.
Graudenz West Prussia June 11 a battalion of infantry has been sent to Konitz about fifty miles northwest of here where a mysterious murder of a schoolboy has stirred disturbances for weeks culminating yesterday in serious excesses and the destruction of a synagogue.
Dr Havelburg reports 100 cases and 1 death since May in Hilo Janeiro. Surgeon General Wy tusa notes the cablegram and Dr Wyman confirms no doubt it is plague. The message does not specify the epidemic referenced.
New York June 1 A M Quarries vice president of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company died at his retirement city today. Quarries was prominent in finance and railway circles.
