Chicago July 1 William J Bryan of Nebraska selected as the Democratic standard bearer after a long convention fight. He gained support as Illinois and Ohio aligned with him and Bland withdrew, with Missouri moving to Bryan. Vice presidential balloting to follow with Pattison McLean and Pennoyer named.
The fourth day of the Democratic convention at Chicago began amid heat with Senator White of California taking the chair near ten fifty five and attempting to restore order after a brief delay. Prayer was offered by Rev Dr Green of Grace Frirstchurek Cellar Arplen Tow.
Senator Hill ex secretary Whitney and James Hinckley left Chicago before the convention ended. Ex Governor Flower stayed to act as spokesman for the New York delegation and supported Bryan as nominee fitting the platform. Hinckley said the delegation will wait for time at home before deciding further.
The Courier Journal editorial attacks the Chicago convention and urges a Democratic convention and unified party organization. It vows not to elect that ticket but to support a revived, vigorous Democratic movement to guide the nation through the coming century.

Reading pa July 10 great devastation is being caused among the growing crops in the northern part of Berks county by the army worm in the townships of Greenwich Richmond and Maxatawny. The pest is destroying grass and oat fields and Paris green fails to stop it. Wet weather delayed discovery allowing several days of damage before farmers noticed. Wheat and rye damage is reduced as harvest nears.
Washington July 10 The Christian Endeavor second day closes with a large packed tented gathering at Williston which has been re erected. A 4000 voice choir has trained for weeks to lead the singing and the night talks center on the theme Saved to Serve.

Buffalo reports a full twenty round fight at the Lyceum theater ending in a draw between Griffo and Everhardt. The match drew local crowds as both boxers exchange blows and survived the distance without a winner.
Hon. Joseph C. Sibley of Pennsylvania declined to permit his name for vice president after Bryan’s assured nomination. Delegates urged support, promising no contest if he accepted. Sibley told a United Press reporter he could not serve as vice president as he could in a private or head position and left for home on an evening train.
