Phillips warned he expected trouble upon return and would not be killed first.
Harriet Beecher Stowe author of Uncle Tom's Cabin died at noon at her Hartford home 72 Forest street. Funeral services set for tomorrow at her home with burial planned in Andover Massachusetts. Born June 14 1811 she rose from a Hartford seminary pupil to a famed abolitionist novelist.
Troy reports Samuel Porter, driver of Franklin M., severely injured in the second heat when the rein broke. Porter was thrown and crushed under the horse, with internal injuries and a fractured skull. In Indianapolis, Charles W. Fairbanks says the Republican vice presidential notification committee will visit Mr. Hobart at Paterson on July 7.

Little Rock July 1 The Republican state convention adopted resolutions endorsing the St Louis platform and nominated a slate headed by Governor H L Remmel of Jackson for governor with H A Reynolds secretary of state J F Mayan attorney general A H Vance treasurer and A A Tufts for auditor.
