Mount Pleasant Florida January 10 Henry Thomas and Albert Stafford fought a pistol duel over a woman's love. They met at thirty yards, exchanged shots, Thomas died two hours after the confrontation, Stafford toppled. Both men were armed and pursued by friends prior to the duel. The woman involved showed no emotion as the bodies were carried by.
Portsmouth Ohio January 10. A wreck on the Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern was averted by Mary Och a 98 year old girl who found a stray horse stuck under a trestle near a sharp curve at Slocum bridge. She warned the engineer with a lantern just as the evening accommodation train approached unseen.
