In Pottstown Pennsylvania on January 2, thieves robbed telegraph operator Charles Holder at midnight. Holder fought with a poker but was overpowered. The burglars looted the station for money, forced Holder to walk a mile, then released him. Police searched but found no trace of the criminals.
Washington January 2 public debt statement reports a net decrease in the public debt for December. The decline is driven by cash in the treasury reducing the total debt, with December results showing a drop of 1 479 dollars and 0 0 in the debt figures. Detectives arrest William King and Harry Wilson alias Howard Johnson, both described as negro, for multiple recent robberies. Agnes Renshaw, a white woman who lived with Wilson, is jailed. Police say the prisoners possessed unset diamonds and jewelry and may be tied to the Burden jewelry theft on Madison Square last Friday night.
King is sought in Washington for robbing M. Louis H. Emmert's house last July. Police recovered valuable jewelry and burglars' tools in the Renshaw woman's room. All prisoners were sent to Jefferson Market court and remanded until tomorrow. The Renshaw woman appeared well dressed.
