Social Week Highlights From Scranton Society
The week’s social scene centered on the kirmesse with performances drawing dancers and families. Highlights include a Musicals program at Scranton Hicycle Clubhouse with Miss Freeman, Miss Allen, and Miss Hackman, and receptions hosted by Mrs. Hallstead, Mrs. Allen, and Mrs. Page. Novel Plan For Y M C A Membership Drive
The Young Men's Christian Association in Scranton plans a bold contest between two groups of about one hundred members each to recruit the most new members by a set date. The winning side earns a banquet or similar prize, with arrangements to be finalized next week. A featured speaker, a former Buddhist convert now promoting Christian ministry, will address Buddhism and Christianity tomorrow. The Rescue Mission marks its fourth anniversary with a large turnout, praising its work aiding the impoverished and housing the needy. Lent observance rules are issued for Scranton diocese Catholics, detailing fasting, meals, exemptions, and dispensation, with Bishop William 0 Hara. Also noted are a Swedenborg lecture in Scranton, a new Orange Baptist church forming among local colored congregants, and a three-denomination ministers meeting.
