Desperate Assault on a Public Street

John Capone, a 25 year old Italian baker, was attacked on the corner of Penn Avenue and Center Street at 7 20 last evening. Vincenzo Hossi, an Italian shoemaker, slashed Capone with a knife, inflicting a five inch gash from the ear to the mouth corner. Capone dodged the blow and survived a life threatening aim. Capone, his wife, three children, and mother reside in a double tenement at Raymond Court between Spruce and Linden Streets. Rossi fled after the attack. Capone’s wound required hospital sewing and he later returned home. A motive is traced to a long standing family feud and alleged payment of Rossi by Peter Rossi to harm Capone or his family. The night squad searched for Rossi, who is believed to be hiding awaiting further action.
