Viaduct deal set to free city from cost and rise of West Lackawanna crossing
Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad and Scranton Railway propose to build a $70,000 viaduct over West Lackawanna avenue at Seventh to Ninth streets at no city expense. The plan, backed by city officials and the Scranton Board of Trade Streets and Highways Committee, would ease a dangerous grade and replace the current steep incline with a 720 foot structure spanning the tracks. The cross street opening at Eighth Street would remain for access, and damages to abutting properties would be settled by established law.
