Bomb extortion nets Phoenix store $3,000
An extortionist warned of two bombs at Food City in southeast Phoenix and directed manager George Barnes to place money in a bag. Barnes complied and moved an attache case to a hamburger stand, where police found no bombs or suspects as the thief fled with about $3,000 to $4,000.

American Bar Association president Chesterfield H. Smith said in Lakeland that a Supreme Court ruling backing Nixon’s refusal to release White House tapes could make Ehrlichman’s prosecution impossible if critical tapes remain unobtainable. He spoke at a news conference Wednesday.
