The Scottsdale chapter led by Richard C Hallmark meets at Ember Glow restaurant at 6 15 am every Thursday and focuses on communication and leadership skill development.

Indecent exposure reported in two city parks

Police investigate two indecent exposure incidents in city parks. On September 8 a man exposed himself to a 13 year old and two friends at 86th Street and Thomas Road. A few days later three teenage girls aged 13 14 and 15 reported a man exposing himself near Eldorado Park at about 3 40 p m.

Arcadia High School Student Struck by Car

Rhonda Rhodes received minor injuries when struck by a four car incident near Arcadia High School in the 4700 block of East Indian School Road. She did not use a crosswalk and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital then released. Witnesses noted traffic issues and police later arrived.

Suspect Freed After Boat Theft Arrest in Globe Case

William F. O Hara of 4632 North 7th Street was released on 1100 bond after Scottsdale police arrested him on a Globe Arizona warrant. He is suspected in the theft of a motor boat reported in Globe police statements.

Storm kills 18 in Scandinavia as power restored in Gothenburg

A Monday windstorm across Scandinavia left 18 dead including nine in Sweden. Gusts toppled trees and disrupted power. Gothenburg began rubble clearance as authorities worked to restore services and assess damage.

Parks plan approved for Eldorado Park southern half

The parks and recreation commission unanimously backed preliminary plans to complete Eldorado Park's southern half at 25 acres with a $190000 urban campground. An island like Huckleberry Finn will be kept primitive with a pond and canal, access by footbridges, and a nearby $30000 control building with year round restrooms.

Three Office Buildings Plan Approval At City Hall

The site plan committee approved three office building plans in Winfield Scott Plaza area. Two will go on the east side of Wells Fargo Ave near Ted Jones Construction Co. A third office building by Jones will occupy the remaining stretch. An eight unit apartment complex north of 66th and Earll was also approved. A child care center plan near 67th and Thomas was continued due to neighborhood compatibility concerns.

Collision injures two on Scottsdale Road at Shea Boulevard

Two injured in a two car crash at the Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard intersection at 7 30 p m Wednesday. Gandol Barrillo of Phoenix drove north and hit Barbra Taylor of Mesa who was westbound on Shea. A passenger, Charlote Collison of Phoenix, and Miss Taylor were treated and released at Scottsdale Baptist Hospital. Barrille was cited for failure to observe a traffic light.

Cosmos 301 unmanned satellite orbits Earth in Cosmos series

The 301st Soviet Cosmos unmanned satellite completed an orbit every 89.4 minutes. It reached about 190 miles high and as low as 123 miles, flying at 65.4 degrees. The mission conducts scientific research and is planned to return to Earth in roughly a week.

Kret backs overhaul of Arizona Retirement System

Phoenix legislative panel signals intent to reform the state Retirement System after analyst Schriber urged trimming the seven member Retirement Board to three and creating a professional investment advisory council to manage about 300 million in funds. Chairman Sen. David Kret said current members are devoted but professional oversight is needed and a meeting is planned for October 22 to draft bills.

The Dow Jones industrial average closes at 829.99, down 4.69, while 20 railroad stocks drop to 199.59, off 1.07 and 65 general stocks trade at 279.27, down 1.29. Volume reaches 10.69 million shares versus 11.32 million on Wednesday.

Burglars Loot Scottsdale Pharmacy and Home

Police report a front window glass break at Srutwa Pharmacy 100 E 4th St Wednesday afternoon allowing burglars to steal narcotics valued at 200 dollars. They also took a 250 dollar stereo from Dixie Corso’s home at 814 N 82nd St between eight in the morning and two in the afternoon, with entry via an unlocked rear door.
