Arizona House leader Burton Barr labeled food stamps an insidious issue and urged major welfare reforms at a Scottsdale luncheon. He cited over $2 million in welfare overpayments since January and 70 000 families on food stamp aid, signaling possible incentives for business welfare subsidies and potential corporate tax concerns. Barr warned of fiscal strain with higher school and Corrections funding requests and predicted a multi year path to economic recovery.
