Adoption First the heartbreak then the joy
Madalene and Rick Matthews of Dana Point recount years of hope and loss as they adopt Jennifer after a 1970s birth mother relinquishes custody. The couple, who faced infertility, endured a frantic week hiding with their baby before learning the law allowed adoption to proceed. They later welcomed twins after another pregnancy with hopeful disappointment turning to joy when twins arrived.
