Johnson taps Ackley to arbitrate steel talks

SEA stays out of Scottsdale school union dispute

Scottsdale Education Association led by president John Anderson will not join the AFT board dispute. The AFT seeks a permanent injunction to block board recognition of SEA as the district's official teachers union. A hearing with Superior Court Judge Kenneth Chatwin is set for Tuesday. The AFT claims discrimination and argues the board grants privileges to SEA that it denies to AFT.

Millionaire MacArthur buys back DeLong ruby

John D. MacArthur retrieved the irreplaceable 100 carat DeLong ruby from criminals and paid 25 000 dollars from his own pocket as a public service to the American Museum of Natural History. The gem was recovered after a theft on October 29 by three Miami beach boys, including Jack Murphy.

Mrs. Herta Vella Funeral Saturday

Phoenix bookseller convicted on obscene items sales

Alfred Sachs owner of Washington News in downtown Phoenix was convicted by a Justice Court jury on two misdemeanor counts for selling Nudism's Golden Days and Western Nudist to plainclothes officer Fred Fillingham. The one day trial featured a quick tour of the store across from the Maricopa County courthouse. Sachs faces six months in jail and up to $300 fine on each count.

Goldwater Sues Fact Magazine for 2 Million Libel

Former Republican candidate Barry Goldwater filed a federal libel suit seeking 2 million dollars against Fact Magazine Inc and editors Ralph Ginzburg and Warsren Boroson. He alleges the September-October 1964 cover line claiming 1889 psychiatrists deem him unfit was false and published with actual malice to ruin his political reputation.
