Guard’s 100th anniversary marks Arizona militia origins

Arizona's Army National Guard, formed by Pima and Maricopa Indians, celebrated 100 years since its creation on Sept. 2, 1865 at Maricopa Wells. The early unit, about 3,000 strong now, traces its lineage through the 258th Infantry Brigade with a streamer honoring the 1865–66 battles in the Mogollon Rim and Tonto Basin.

Obituary of William Neil 81 Phoenix resident

William Neil 81 of 2022 N 38th St Phoenix died Wednesday at Baptist Hospital of Scottsdale. A native of Scotland he moved from Detroit in 1958 and retired in Scottsdale after thirty years as night manager of the Detroit Leland Hotel. He is survived by Flora his wife, William Jr of Scottsdale and three grandchildren. Funeral Saturday 11 a.m. at Green Acres Mortuary Chapel of Light Burial in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Friday at the mortuary. The Rev Cled Wimbish to officiate.
