A rare visitor prompted Mrs. Conrad Kleinman to call police. Patrolman Tom Clark responded to 86th and Chaparral to meet the visitor. His report: Contacted Gila monster, placed Gila in a bag, and left it at Bell and Scottsdale Road.
Federal agents aided by four West Coast offices and the FBI arrested 19 Chinese crewmen from the Norwegian freighter Hough Dene after seizing 57 pounds of opium with an estimated wholesale value of 700000. Ng Poy, a Chinatown resident, was also arrested as the suspected receiver.
Dick Guthrie an 18 year old Arcadia High School graduate operates two ricksha style foot transport units at Thomas Mall and Chris Town in Phoenix. He offers complimentary lifts tipping 25 cents to 50 cents and plans to expand to Sears and Rhodes. Guthrie rents each ricksha to friends and reinvests earnings toward college at Brigham Young University while studying biology.
The Arizona Young Republicans executive board voted 13 to 1 to revoke charters of the Eastside and Downtown Tucson clubs and the Pima County Young Republican League. Brannan cited defiance of Barry Goldwater’s request to cancel Gaston speaking engagement and irregularities in admissions as reasons. The clubs will remain active but limit functions to Pima County. Royal alleged Maricopa faction influence for 1964 aims.
New York Republican Rep. Paul Fine claims Arizona is a silent partner with organized crime and a gamblers paradise. He estimates $750 million in illegal gambling annually with about 10 percent profits to the underworld and says hypocrisy funds criminal entrepreneurs at $75 million yearly.
The Supreme Court denied Mobile County Alabama School Board's bid to block desegregation order and start of public school integration this fall. Judge Hugo Black earlier refused to stay the order, noting nine years of unconstitutional operation. This ruling marks a first for Alabama public schools below college level since 1954's desegregation decision.
Rev. Morton A. Hill a Jesuit at St. Ignatius Loyola says he fasts on water from Friday evening until Mayor Wagner orders a crackdown on pornographic literature. He accuses Wagner of failing to implement a four point program to curb sales.

Voters go to the polls Tuesday across five Scottsdale locations from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. to decide a 7.5 million sewer revenue bond. The plan spans five cities with federal aid and promises no residential tax increase through 1990, funded by project revenues.
Two men were killed and at least two injured during opening weekend of Arizona deer season. Victims were Charles Waters 35 and Stephen Jones 20 both from Phoenix, in Yavapai County. A rifle discharged injuring Charles Martin 29 in Phoenix and William Parkerson 38 in Wenden. a boy caused a rifle to topple injuring no one. Rancher H C McGarity reported cattle losses as riflemen damaged one steer and wounded six others. Arizona Game and Fish Department noted no weekend deer kill totals yet.
M E Wright Jr 23 of Jonesboro Louisiana will start duties December 1 as Scottsdale librarian. His wife the Miss Louisiana pageant winner last year will graduate this semester from Northeastern Louisiana State College as a music major. Wright chosen from 20 applicants for the 665 a month post after three interviewed. Wright currently a Jonesboro branch librarian. has a 1958 B A political science from Northwestern State and a 1961 M L S from LSU. has Jamaica New York experience and taught English at Port Sulphur Louisiana. The oral review board selected him as first choice.
