Laszlo Szabo a Hungarian diplomat and second secretary at the Budapest embassy disappeared in London last weekend. He contacted the American embassy and sought asylum, and British officials confirmed he was not in Britain and later that he was in the United States.
In Santo Domingo heavy gunfire erupted as Dominican air force infantry moved on the former rebel district from waterfront barracks. One person died and two were wounded in clashes with armed youths. Ex president Bosch urged restraint while meetings with 14th of June and Social Christian leaders were reported.
In Phoenix, voters decide Prop 160 and Prop 101 on raising the state debt limit and allowing bond issuance without property owner votes. Turnout could reach 10 to 30 percent of 511,768 registered voters as polls opened at 6 a.m. and closed at 7 p.m.
A six week old welfare baby known as Baby Boy Emory died possibly from a blanket smothering. Connie Brooks cared for the infant at 8613 Valley View Dr. and found the child with a blanket over the head about 7 am. The baby was pronounced dead on arrival at Baptist Hospital. police said the baby’s real name is unknown.
About 1,000 northeast Scottsdale residents sign petitions to urge a new bridge over the Arizona Canal on Granite Reef Road. They say it would cut a five mile round trip to India Bend Country Club and the Arizona Horse Country Club, with private funding possible.
The city drummed out its K-9 Corps first and only member Wolf a mixed shepherd drafted to guard the vehicle yard. Officials say he roamed the neighborhood for amorous pursuits and even went AWOL, prompting an honorable discharge. He now serves as a watchdog at Virgil Watkins's home.

In Hayneville Alabama the state seeks disqualification of juror C. E. Bender and 11 others amid a 24 hour delay in the Collie Leroy Wilkins death trial. Attorney General Rich mond Flowers argues Bender’s prior Klan ties could taint jurors.
A Scottsdale three year old, Erin Graves of 807 Sc Chaparral Rd, was struck by a northbound car driven by John Boyce at the Chaparral Rd and 86th St corner. She was reported in satisfactory condition. Boyce said he traveled about 15 mph and could not avoid the accident as the child darted into the street. no citation was issued.
Seven Black Knights of the Ku Klux Klan forced George Turner off U.S. 78 near Crawfordville and tried to beat him. Authorities said the Klansmen were arrested at a restaurant after the incident. seven sawed-off shot guns eight pistols and several clubs were seized. J. M. Howard Sims 43 and Cecil Myers 27 both of Athens were named among the Klansmen. Sims is a general and Myers a captain. Both had been acquitted last September in the nightrender slaying of Lemuel Penn in Georgia.
City council to meet at 8 p m in the town hall chambers to finalize a rezoning of a 40 acre northeast Scottsdale parcel owned by Stanley Short from single family to 30 acres of townhouses 7 acres of apartments and 2 acres of commercial at Granite Reef and McDonald Drive subject to completed dedications. The session also weighs street name changes swiming pool definition rear yard setback revisions and a beer license recommendation for Coronado Golf Course.
