The district seeks two bond packages totaling 13.31 million and 90 thousand dollars for a 20 acre Rose Lane K-6 campus near Saguaro High and Granite Reef Rd and a future 20 acre northwest site. Dec 5 vote could allow April construction with occupancy by late 1968.
The Scottsdale City Council will meet on October 31 to request bids for a new civic center costing 2.4 million dollars that will house a city hall and library. A site plan shows building and parking layouts with streets nearby. if bids are accepted, work could begin around year start and finish within a year. Property within the site has been acquired and is being cleared.

King Hussein visits Cairo meeting Nasser as Jordanian forces fire at an Israeli crop dusting plane in the Betshean Valley. Ambassador Goldberg mediates with Egyptian Foreign Minister Riad.
Court recessed before ruling on Scottsdale zoning dispute over approval for R. C. Fennell shopping center at Lincoln Drive and Scottsdale. City Attorney Filler argues council had authority to refer to voters. Fennell’s lawyer says council exceeded power by sending issue to referendum.
In Phoenix the Finance and Revenue Committee advances a plan for large scale education aid at the state level and lower local property taxes. Senate Democrats announce a caucus on the topic as a special session to open in early November is tentatively planned if agreement on the program outline is reached.
Scottsdale Federation of Teachers backs a policy allowing Jewish teachers paid leave on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. The district cites contract limits, while the SFT urges personal leave with pay and involving teachers in calendar decisions. The union accuses officials of bad faith and discrimination.

The Sierra Vista youth was sentenced to life for the Janelle Haines killing at Fort Huachuca last June. Seven killed in San Luis car bus crash east of the city. four identified as Felix M Quenda his wife Marla and their two children Leticia and Angel of San Jose California.
The Rural Fire Department could not resuscitate Harry Roberts 55 of 8701 E Ber ridge after a reported heart attack at his home. Chief Murray Robertson said Roberts was pronounced dead on arrival at Scottsdale Baptist Hospital around 1 a.m. Firemen used 3,000 pounds of oxygen.
Firemen responded to a house fire at 37 E MacKenzie caused by an electrical short in a utility outlet. Earlier a car fire at 7473 E Osborn damaged Lowell D Hankins' vehicle by about $50 due to a backfiring carburetor.
The state challenged Dr. Kyle Pierce s conclusions from five psychological tests given to Robert Benjamin Smith during August cross examining Pierce. Deputy Morse Dareer cited ink blot studies and a UN report to dispute the tests while Pierce defended their relevance. Smith faces five counts of first degree murder in deaths of four women and a child last November.
