German Youths Escape After Border Clash In Armored Truck
Three East German youths aged 18 to 22 rammed a double barrier at the Com munist Berlin checkpoint toward Hamburg in a four ton truck with makeshift armor. Reds fired 15 rounds but the refugees escaped unharmed. The incident was one of several border flare ups with a bystander wounded by a tear gas grenade and at least nine others reportedly fleeing to West Berlin.

Tucson Children Stricken by Paralyzing Illness
Public Health Service experts in Phoenix said identification would take another week. Seven Tucson children have fallen ill with fever weakness and paralysis. Virologists suspect polio but other viruses remain possible. Victims include Luis Robles two Elizabeth Flores seven months and Cynthia Carner two with four earlier cases also affected. Three are in iron lungs.
