Economist predicts Nixon price freeze may help farm sector
Agricultural economist Dr. John D. Fischer of the University of Arizona says Nixon’s price freeze could lift farm incomes and curb inflation. He notes the 1 percent import tax may blunt overseas sales for Arizona crops like cotton, while a 10 percent levy could aid some commodity markets but risks broader harm. Fisher cautions inflation affects farmers and sees the current price controls leave farmers relatively better off than a universal freeze.
