Scottsdale Fire Budget Puts City Hydrants Under Strain
Rural Fire Protection Co. chief says Scottsdale is undermanned and needs more hydrants to raise its fire protection rating. The city pays $51 000 for protection with seven major pieces of equipment, 11 full time men, 40 reserves, and two stations. Tempe and Mesa spend more on departments with larger staffing and equipment. Hydrants on order and new water access have improved tactics, but water supply remains the main rating factor.
