He carried all nine polling places for 1 045 votes, ahead of Dr. John A. Martin, Mowry, and H. H. Balliett. one write‑in vote for Roger Maris was cast. The five‑year term begins after the election.

Fishing Boat Runs Aground In Dense Fog Off Point Arena
The 108 foot Star of the Sea carrying 10 aboard ran aground in heavy fog 85 miles north of San Francisco.
