Four Children Die as Train Hits School Bus at Crossing
A 97 car Union Pacific freight train struck a Waterloo Nebraska school bus on a gravel road crossing. Four children were killed and nine injured as the bus, carrying 13 aboard, pulled into the train's path. Driver Thomas M McMahon said sun glare blinded him. Two victims were brothers David Clayton age nine and Ronald age twelve. Hospital reports note some injuries were not serious. Brakeman W L Nybhelin corroborated the bus stopped then entered the crossing.
