A six officer general court martial cleared Staff Sergeant Clyde F. Cornelison, 29, of Cocoa Beach Florida, of cruelty charges from eight recruits at Parris Island. He cannot return to drill instructor duty though the verdict absolves him. four recruits testified to slaps and punches, yet stated the blows did not injure them.
In Tucson the search for missing teenager Aileen Rowe received two major leads that were discounted when the mother said a bathing suit and a woman’s shift dress found in the desert did not belong to her daughter.
Mrs. Noma Rowe told Sheriff Chronister that her daughter Miss Rowe wore a bathing suit of a color different from the one found with the Fritz sisters remains near a desert site. A bone fragment remains the key clue as deputies pursue leads amid flood-washed evidence and three suspects charged in Miss Rowe's murder.

The Paradise Valley town council set December 24 as the filing deadline for petitions to run in the February 23 primary. Petitions require 30 signatures and will be available at town hall next week for candidates competing for seven council seats, from which a mayor and vice mayor will be selected.
A blaze costing about 50000 dollars swept through a brick east side block housing two furniture stores a restaurant a clothing shop a hardware store and several apartments. Fire Chief Conice said the fire likely began in a furniture store. Firefighters Lawrence Labbe and John Nist entered the building to search for residents and were later missing. The body of firefighter Labbe was found in a restaurant basement with only a melted helmet identifiable and Margaret Barb 76 was found in a hallway while escaping ruin.
