Albert B. Withey the Larkspur School principal was dismissed by the Paradise Valley board after a two and a half hour public session attended by nearly 500 residents. The board cited insubordination unprofessional conduct and falsification of credentials among the charges. Withey contested the accusations reading letters of recommendation as the crowd heckled and debated past troubles in multiple states during the investigation.

Eight injured in two-car crash near Scottsdale
A two-car collision at S Hayden Road and Van Buren Street left eight injured with four in hospitals. David Berman, 15, and Bill Walker, 39, were drivers. Berman cited for no license and linked to a car theft string. Passengers James Thompson, 14, and others from the Fort McDowell Reservation were treated. Another crash on Pecos Lane injured Spencer Richard, 70, and Louise Johnson, 39, with Johnson’s daughters treated for injuries. Richard cited for failure to yield.

Venus 2 launches toward Venus on uncrewed space mission

Jury Deliberates in Embezzlement Trial of Ex-Policeman Shaver
An all woman jury is set to decide the embezzlement case of former Scottsdale police officer A. M. Shaver charged with taking three saddles from the police department on November 11. Final arguments were led by Bob Hertzberg and Tom McCarthy for the state and Fenton McDonough for the defense. The defense says Shaver loaned saddles to two officers, who were later fired, while Shaver testified that Chief Walter Nemetz advised him he had no right to counsel.

City weighs 10 year lease for neighborhood park
The city council will consider a contract to lease eight acres of a Salt River Project land for a neighborhood park south of Paiute Elementary along TE Osborn Road. If approved the SRP board will review on December 6 with a 10 year term and three five year renewal options. Playground equipment and a horseback trail would be built for Paiute School pupils and maintained by the Parks and Recreation Department.
