New York stocks fell again as trading remained moderate on the NYSE. The Dow dropped 12.80 to 919.85 with 721 issues down and 472 up out of 6,596. GM ex dividend and DuPont declines weighed on the market after two-session gains.
Total Arizona employment reaches 787,000 in mid-September, up 9,300 from August with 48,700 over the year. Nonagricultural wages rise to 704,400, public education adds 14,000, and Phoenix area payrolls climb 4,900 to 460,700 as seasonal gains offset sector losses.
A new retail concept debuted in Scottsdale at La Belle's distributing on 1900 N Scottsdale Rd. The store uses a catalog showroom model with 22,000 square feet of space. Manager Alvin Cohen notes merchandise can be delivered in minutes and a portion of the store is set aside for self service items while most space displays one of each of the stores 15,000 items.
Cohen describes a new catalog showroom concept where customers view a single item per stock number, order by blank, and item retrieval happens in the stock room. The Scottsdale La Belle showroom, the 31st Modern Merchandising outlet, offers mail order, phone, or in person shopping with a public-display format.
