Nogales man in critical condition after Hayden Road crash
A Nogales man, Frederick Zweig, 19, is in critical condition at Scottsdale Baptist Hospital after a two car collision at Hayden Road and Garfield Street Monday night. A Tempe passenger, Robert Throop, 19, is in good condition, and Deputy David Vodika, 35, was treated and released for minor injuries. Zweig was cited for failure to yield right of way.

Leon C. Pelott 83 stockholder and sales associate with Penton Publishing Co. Chicago died Tuesday in St. Josephs Hospital. He lived at 112 Mountain Shadows West and was born in Akron Ohio before moving to Scottsdale in 1958 from Evanston Illinois. Survivors include his wife Beulah son Hugh Hamilton and four grandchildren. Friends may call after 6 p.m. at Messinger Mortuary. Cremation will follow private services Thursday. Contributions to the American Heart Association suggested.

Fire extinguished in gas clothes dryer at Sparkle Laundry
Scottsdale Rural Fire Department responded to Sparkle Laundry at 101 W Irndian School Rd at 8 37 pm Monday extinguishing a fire in a gas clothes dryer. Smoke cleared after the gas was shut off. Damage was about 75 dollars. An adjacent brush fire near 6632 E Cheery Lynn caused 150 dollars in damage. A cooler motor overheated at 2337 N 66th St causing 25 dollars damage. A boy playing with matches is believed responsible for the brush fire.
