Mobile library on wheels opens in Scottsdale
Scottsdale starts its first library on wheels tomorrow with a specially designed trailer. Gene Wright, City Library Director, says the unit will be at Papago Plaza from 2 to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays and at Gorway department store Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The $7,000 trailer holds about 4,000 volumes and air conditioning plus heating, with a goal to stock up to 20,000 volumes later.

Father testifies first in death trial of Edward J. Michael Jr
Edward J. Michael Jr. faces trial in Superior Court for the July 5 slaying of his wife Florence at the Scottsdale home. His father Edward L. Michael Sr. testified that his son is an outdoorsman and devoted father and that there was no violence in their seven years of marriage. The elder Michael recounted hearing a gunshot, finding Florence wounded, and ordering the family to secure weapons. Scattered testimony noted Florence’s nervous breakdown in 1963 and her recent move back to Scottsdale from Louisiana. The trial judge is Charles Stidham. Additional prosecution witnesses included Scottsdale detectives Townsend Pratt Warchott and patrolman Star.

Scottsdale Youth Killed in Scooters Collision With Bus
An 18-year-old Scottsdale man, Richard Charles Schure, died after his motorscooter struck a school bus in Phoenix. The bus driver Glenn Grigsby, 55, was cited for failure to yield while turning left. The bus, owned by the Jewish Community Center, carried six preschool children. one child suffered a minor ear injury. Schure, an Arcadia High School graduate, had attended Arizona State University. Funeral arrangements were pending.
