Supreme Court eases search limits in criminal cases
The Supreme Court, in an 8 to 1 decision, loosened rules on evidence seized during searches. Justice Brennan wrote the majority ruling allowing use of items found in a legitimate search even if not immediately linked to the crime. Justice Douglas dissented, with Justices Warren and Fortas agreeing with Brennan on results but not the reasoning. The case involved Bennie Joe Hayden and clothing found in his possession.
