The Arizona Hair Stylist Guild meets Sunday May 26 at 12 30 in Phoenix for a workshop led by Clella Grevan. The event is open to four to one beauticians and will include instruction.
A Sunday workshop on hair styling demonstrations will be followed by a dinner for Guild members at Hiway House. New officers will be installed and shields presented to Darel Chitford Lorna Peterson and Virginia Wade alongside other new members.
Dr John R Green and Judge Warren McCarthy announce a mid point total for the 65,000 fundraising drive to train and educate brain injured children in the valley. They urge timely contributions to support happy useful citizens and note slower than expected returns. Contributions mailed to Arizona Society for the Brain Injured Phoenix Arizona P O Box 2418.
Scottsdale Rotary Club met Monday noon May 13 at Lulu Belle presided by George Keebler. Chas W Pine of Phoenix spoke on Operation Moonwatch. Chamber Clean Up Campaign urged for last week of May. Bill Ramby was made honorary Sergeant at Arms and will return to Canada in fall. Board meeting set for Tuesday noon with all directors urged to attend.
In 1949 Cliff Carpenter led the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce as president and named Andy Swick head of the Business Bureau. Together they organized volunteers to hire cleaners for Main Street while residents even shoveled after cowboys. Malcolm White funded sidewalks, sparking progress and community pride.
Arizona Wing of the OX-5 Club of America formed at Sky Harbor Airport Phoenix on May 17 with about 50 pilots. Membership includes WWI era pilots who flew or worked with the mass produced engine before 1940. Officers elected Carl Kiner president Elgin Newell vice president Melba Beard secretary Vincent Fitzgerald treasurer. Ben Hazelton named to the Board of Governors. The charter banquet is planned for June or early fall and the 1957 National Convention will be in Oklahoma in September.
Art Clark presents a one man show of bracero photographs at the Kiva Theater Scottsdale. The majority center on Jesus Morales, showing the varied moods of Mexican farm workers contracted to American farmers for seasonal harvests.
A special meeting of Sipe-Petersen Nd. 44, American Legion, is scheduled for Monday night May 27 at the Legion Hall on East First Street. Agenda includes election of a post commander. A teen-age dance is planned at the Legion Hall on Saturday night June 1.
