Senate rejects troop-cut legislation in Europe

The Senate rejected a plan to force withdrawal of 150000 U.S. troops from Europe over three years. The vote followed a compromise proposed by Senator Gaylord Nelson with Democratic Leader Mike Mansfield saying the measure would end Mansfield’s effort to reduce forces. The administration warned that such reductions would weaken NATO and hinder mutual talks with the Soviet Union.

Arizona forecast shows $400 to $500 million tax shortfall by 1980

Car Damaged by Possible Fuel Line Fire

A car owned by Paul J. Johnson sustained $300 in damage Tuesday from a fire possibly caused by a broken fuel line. Fire department units responded at 9:46 p.m. to 4314 E. Clarendon and extinguished the blaze with a garden hose.

Man Charged With Assault on Officer After Disturbance Call

A 49 year old man, Warner Thomson, was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with aggravated assault on Patrolman James Kershner after reportedly struggling with him during a disturbance call in the 8300 block of Keim Drive. No charges were filed in the original complaint. Thomson is held on $1,600 bond awaiting trial.

Seven year old Lad Injured In Auto Crash In Phoenix

Lance Blades seven year old son of Mrs Helen Blades of 2815 N 70th St was listed in critical condition at Barrows Neurological Clinic Phoenix after being struck by a car Tuesday night at Steeple and Osborn Road. Police say Danny Rosenson 16 of 6933 Dast Osborn Rd drove eastbound and struck the youth. No charges filed yet. Other Tuesday accidents reported include incidents on 84th Street Coronado Thomas Road Scottsdale and McDowell avenues with multiple cars involved.

Police say Robert Janusz 23 of 2536 N 53rd St Phoenix was arrested after his vehicle struck a fence near 87th Street and Coronado and he drove away. He faces three charges driving while intoxicated hit and run and imprudent speed and was released on $165 bond.
