About 800 grammar school youngsters from 29 county schools, including 11 in Scottsdale, will attend a noon to 3 pm picnic at the Scottsdale Community Center. The event rewards the Sheriff’s School Safety Patrol for safe crossings and orderly conduct, featuring 2400 hot dogs and 2100 cups of ice cream. The Maricopa Mounted Posse funds the fete from its annual rodeo profits, with George Smith Singers performing midday.

Veteran racer Bettenhausen killed in Indianapolis crash
