Midwest flood harms farms and homes delaying planting

Swollen midwestern rivers inundated thousands of homes and fields across Indiana Illinois Iowa and Missouri while a clear weather forecast offered little relief. Kennedy seeks five year federal program to curb youth crime

President Kennedy asked Congress to approve a five year federal program to lead a nationwide fight on juvenile delinquency. He urged creation of a committee on juvenile delinquency headed by Robert F. Kennedy with David L. Hackett as executive director. Bill Hendry, former Arcadia High assistant principal who resigned last March to pursue a doctorate at Arizona State University, has been named principal at Chandler High. He says his doctoral goal remains, though it will take longer, and notes he joined Arcadia two years ago after earning a BA from Alma College and an MA from the University of Michigan.
