Navy Secretary rejects Pueblo court martial for crew
Navy Secretary John H. Chafee says the inquiry's recommendations to court martial Cmdr. Lloyd M. Bucher and Lt. Stephen Harris are unnecessary and that no further legal action is needed for any Pueblo personnel. He notes officers would have suffered enough and cites morale and discipline in the fleet.

Navy Chief Says Bucher Fate Hinges on Future Command
Secretary Chafee said Omar Lloyd Bucher must prove fitness before new command decisions. The Pueblo skipper faced no discipline despite a court of inquiry recommending trials for Bucher and another Pueblo officer. Stephen Harris, relieved at no court martial, will join Naval Communications Command and has bought a Bethesda home with his wife. The inquiry praised some Pueblo crew members for behavior in captivity.

Salt River Project trims drawdown at Apache Lake
SRP announced changes to drawdown schedules at Apache Lake and Canyon Lake. Apache will drop 23 feet after Memorial Day rather than 70, stay at that level until August, rise 15 feet, then fall again to 23 feet and refill by February. Canyon Lake remains dry from August to November. Drawdowns provide room for Roosevelt Dam flows when the river below Apache must stay dry.
