Emerald show at San Marcos hotel features Navajo arts
A select show and sale of emeralds directed by John Quarty runs daily 8 to 10 am and noon to 1 pm at the San Marcos Resort Hotel in Chandler for this week. The National Gem Society has appraised the Columbian emeralds and they may be viewed. A nearby meeting of the National Indian Arts and Crafts Auxiliary in Scottsdale hosts Tom McCune on Navajo religion and sand painting. The public is welcome.

The Village Tillées Garden Club held its Annual Flower Show at Eldorado Park Recreation Center with entries in interpretations of the arts. Awards went to Mrs. John Marley for a creativity sweepstake in the artistic division and to Mrs. Robert Tarallo for a snapdragon specimen in horticulture.

Fashion and art collide at Tri City Mall with a two day event Friday and Saturday. A Friday 7 to 8 p m fashion show features 130 outfits from Diamond's Henry's Penney's Switzer's Bob Fox Children and Teens National Shirt Shop and H Kress and Company. Pro artists and 30 Westwood High School Visual Arts students showcase work including painting ceramics sculpture and weaving. Scholarships totaling 250 go to two Yavapai Junior College winners. The art show runs 10 a m to 9 p m Friday and 10 a m to 6 p m Saturday with demonstrations and sales of works including oils watercolors ceramics and jewelry.

Objects USA draws crown at Phoenix Art Museum exhibit
The celebrated Objects USA showcases by more than 250 American craftsmen attracted one of the largest crowds at the Phoenix Art Museum. Opened March 13, the 308 piece collection from Johnson Wax Co covers wood metal fiber glass enamel plastic and mosaic. Through eight days it drew about 8,000 visitors and is billed as a rare corporate collection touring nationwide since its Smithsonian origin. Local Arizona craftsmen Paolo Salerini Bob Winston Rose Cabat Nik Krevitsky and Charles Idleinal are represented.
