Texan Arrested on Marijuana Charge in El Paso

An El Paso man was arrested Monday and charged with possession of marijuana by state narcotics agents. The case involves a Texan accused of illicit drug possession.

Fires damage two cars here

Fire damage totaled about 400 dollars to a sport car owned by J C Cook at 815 N Hayden. A second car fire at Fashion Square caused about 30 dollars damage to Catherine Valentes’s car at 3 38 p m. A sign fire near Richfield station caused unknown damage. A man, Alberto Lopez, 26, was arrested in the 7200 block of E Osborn with marijuana and other drugs. Scottsdale police detained a 15 year old girl at Scottsdale High with marijuana seeds and stalks.

Two Scottsdale youths held in string of car thefts

Two Scottsdale youths, Michael Dailey 18 and Edward Jahntz, were arrested by Phoenix police at a parking area near 24th Street and Camelback Road amid a burglary from vehicles investigation. About $1,800 in stolen property was recovered. most burglaries occurred in Phoenix and both are Gerard High students.

Red China renews border firing along Ussuri river

Soviet report says Chinese Red Guards massed along the Sino Soviet border and fired mortars and machineguns at Russian troops guarding Da mansky Island in the Ussuri River. A Soviet colonel described last Saturday’s seven hour battle with helicopters moving wounded crews and Moscow papers publishing graphic accounts.

School aid bill appears dead

UPI reports in Phoenix that a bill offering financial relief to school districts overestimated enrollments died as the Senate rejected a conference committee backed plan 13 to 15. Senate leaders and Republicans clashed as adjournment ended the session without final action.

Scottsdale man injured in car motorcycle crash

A Scottsdale man is in satisfactory condition at Scottsdale Baptist Hospital after a Monday morning crash involving a car and motorcycle. George W. McConaha, 41, of 501 Pinto Lane, tried to turn the motorcycle onto Brown Avenue from Osborn Road as Mildred L. Bitel, 57, turned onto Osborn from Brown and failed to yield the right of way.

Scottsdale men named to MAG planning committee

Daie Carter assistant city manager and George Fretz planning director were named to a committee guiding planning for the Maricopa Association of Governments. Led by Don alc Hutton the group will advise on urban area planning with emphasis on population economics and travel factors through 1995. MAG includes 15 cities and towns plus Maricopa County.

Tanks clash near Suez as border fighting resumes

United press international reports heavy fighting between Egyptian and Israeli forces along the Suez Canal ending a four day lull. Fires erupted in Suez City while both sides exchanged shelling from Port Tewfik to the Bitter Lakes area. One Israeli soldier was lightly wounded before a mutual cease fire halted fighting.

Obituary for Frank J. Donahue Ex Allis-Chalmers engineer

Frank J. Donahue 63, veteran World War II Army officer and former Elm Grove civil defense director, died Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital. A Milwaukee native and Annapolis graduate, he worked 27 years at Allis-Chalmers and belonged to several veteran groups. He is survived by his wife Mildred and two brothers. Services at St Maria Goretti Church, burial in Milwaukee.

William H Ware 72 died Monday at Heritage of Camel Nursing Home in Scottsdale after 14 years residence at 2632 N 71st St. A baker for Saga Foods he was born in Texas and survived by Irene his wife Mary Newman a daughter three brothers three sisters and four grandchildren. Services Wednesday 11 am Green Acres Mortuary with burial at Green Acres Cemetery. Friends may call 7 9 pm at the mortuary. Betty Cavanaugh a Kansas City native who moved to Scottsdale in 1963 died at Scottsdale Baptist Hospital. She resided at 4630 N 7ath St and belonged to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Survivors include a daughter Mrs Eugene McGannon a sister and five grandchildren Local arrangements were handled by Sunset Mortuary.
