New York close on the New York Stock Exchange lists varied results across major classes with Admiral, Air Products, Alcan and Allied Signal among notable movers. Platinum falls 1002 to 205, copper 1.12 to 1 cent, corn 3.01 and wheat 5.23 per bushel, soybeans 6.40, cattle 43.50, hogs 35, cocoa 70, plywood 138.50. Movements show mixed declines and small gains across commodities.
UPI reports analysts see the Dow Jones Industrial Average testing the low 800s again but note an overall shift upward with many stocks likely to outperform the Dow in the coming two months. Firms warn oil embargo effects have largely been priced in and a broad upward movement may be forming.
The Dow Jones closing averages show declines across most sectors with the Industrial index at 889.78 down 1.88, Transports at 196.49 down 0.35, and Utilities at 193.91 down 0.19 while Stocks 281.94 slipped 0.57. Total shares traded today reached 19.77 million.
New York stocks opened strong but turned mixed on reports Arabs may end their five month oil embargo. The Dow edged down to 90.57 while the S P 500 rose to 99.68 as 19.5 million shares traded. Outcome hinges on oil ministers meeting next Sunday in Vienna.
Dickson Electronics Corporation at 8706 E Thomas Road briefly became DEC after a sale to Siemens West Germany. Dickson president Dick Rudolph said the old Delaware structure was liquidated, a new DEC Delaware corporation formed, then the name reverted to Dickson immediately.
First National Bank of Arizona leases a Univac 1110 computer valued at 4.3 million from Sperry Univac. The installation at Tempe Operations Center makes the bank the largest Univac user in the United States. The system will process nearly 300000 daily transactions for 268000 checking customers with future on line stock transfer and loan applications.
