Tens of thousands of Muscovites braved a swirling snowstorm to jeer at Chinese diplomats peering from the Peking embassy. Police and troops kept order as protesters, marching six abreast for about 4.5 hours, denounced alleged Chinese atrocities against Soviet border guards with placards and noise makers.
President Nixon faces a choice on deploying the multibillion dollar antiballistic missile system. He will announce his decision early next week after reviewing pro and con position papers and briefings from advisers. Nixon argued the project could heighten the arms race while opponents warned it would not enhance security.
A three judge federal panel ruled the Arizona anti obscenity statute valid despite initial doubts. Actor Robert Cummings filed for divorce from wife Mary Elliott after 24 years of marriage alleging extreme cruelty. He requests custody of their four minor children while Elliott, once an actress, is identified as the former spouse. The couple married March 3, 1945 in Riverside, California and separated October 31 of last year.
