Scottsdale billboard case denied dismissal set for March trial
Superior Court Judge John Burke refused to dismiss Eller's billboard lawsuit against the City of Scottsdale and set a March 21 trial. He ordered three billboards stay in the public right of way during the case and issued a temporary restraining order against removal. Two billboards sit at 74th Street and McDowell Road, the third near Scott Imports. Eller and attorney Harry Goss argue the city ordinance is unconstitutional and permits relocation of billboards if in the right of way. City Attorney Dick Filler reviewed the legality of the ordinance and removal of illegal or nonconforming signs.

McCulloch bill revised aids private districts near Scottsdale
The McCulloch Bill, revised by attorneys for McCulloch Properties and Page Land, moves to approval by the House Municipalities Committee. It would allow private developers to form special improvement districts and sell tax free bonds for major infrastructure as Fountain Hills development proceeds near Shea Boulevard and Beeline Highway. The bill faces opposition from Scottsdale and the League of Arizona Cities and Towns. A State Community Development Council would oversee bond sales and project spending, with penalties for misused funds and provisions for annexation or incorporation after eight years. Additionally, burglars stole about 150 suits valued at $10,000 from Goldwater’s department store in Fashion Square, breaking in between 5 and 7 am. another theft involved a woman’s wristwatch worth $120.
