Schmid seeks to testify in own defense but is overruled
Convicted murderer Charles Schmid said he wished to testify in his own defense at the just‑completed trial but his attorney William Tinney overruled the plan. Tinney said Schmid did not indicate he would take the stand, citing risk to an upcoming March 15 murder trial in the death of 15 year old Aileen Rowe. The 11 day trial cost Pima County about 7000 dollars, mostly lodging for 14 jurors and 2100 dollars for bailiffs, with meals paid at 3 dollars per juror per day. The court injunction prohibiting comment by law officers remained in effect, to stay until Rowe’s jury is sequestered.

A US military spokesman announced the capture of the first Viet Cong carrier pigeon. A patrol from the 101st Airborne Brigade captured the bird and the message on its leg in the Tuy Hoa area. The spokesman said the bird is definitely Viet Cong.

Truck theft at New England Food Fair shocker
Inez owner claims up to 50000 dollars in the truck when stolen.
