Mixed reviews for Kyung Wha Chung at Grady Gamage

A Phoenix Symphony concert at Grady Gamage Auditorium drew mixed reactions. Kyung Wha Chung impressed in places with polished fingering and warm tone, yet critics called her performance immature and erratic with unnecessary contortions. The program opened with Bach and featured Tchaikovsky Romeo and Juliet, praised for the orchestra's rich tone under Pierre Hetu, though the modern Roussel ended with uneven pacing. The reviewer noted audience enthusiasm exceeded his own assessment and the show would repeat at Alhambra Auditorium.
