President Kennedy pressed both rail unions and management to continue bargaining without a nationwide shutdown until July 10. A White House meeting postponed a strike 23 days, warning Congress could impose settlement terms if no agreement is reached.
Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev declared he withdraws the offer of three annual on-site inspections for a nuclear test ban and urged President Kennedy to act and discuss peace. He criticized Kennedy’s American University speech while reaffirming demands on German peace, signaling a harder line ahead of Geneva talks.
Navajo County sheriff probes a white woman corpse found in a shallow grave about 25 miles southwest of Kayenta on the Navajo Reservation. An autopsy is set. fingerprints will be used to identify the 25 to 30 year old, 125 pound victim found by Ruth Bennally, 14, and Billy Bennally, 10, while herding sheep. The body was found half way up Black Mesa off Arizona 64 and was clad only in a brassiere and capri pants.
Florence Arizona UPI Joan Kaiser 35 widow of slain convict Kaiser admitted hiding three 25 caliber pistols planted to aid her husband and six other prisoners escape from Arizona State Prison. She faces preliminary hearings on aiding escape with bail set at 15000.
Bette Vaughn reported a burglary of $640 in jewels from her Scottsdale hotel apartment. She said the theft occurred Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The room was locked when she left and when she returned.
Tass indicated a flying laboratory plan may begin with Lt. Col. Valery Bykovsky’s eight day mission aboard Vostok 5. Sources suggested a second manned craft, possibly with the world’s first spacewoman, could be connected in orbit. Bykovsky reported 17th orbit and 416000 miles covered with normal systems and cabin conditions as Moscow TV aired continuous updates.
London Health Minister Enoch Powell pledges support for Prime Minister Harold Macmillan amid the Profumo scandal debate in the House of Commons. Powell's stance reduces the chance of a party rebellion and potential government loss. In New York, doctors report Herbert Hoover showing improvement but serious condition after anemia and intestinal bleeding, with no further bulletins unless there is change.

Governor Paul Fannin called the current revolt against school bond elections disastrous and said the public’s stand against higher taxes is commendable. He criticized insufficient investigation and cited defeats of Maricopa County Junior College bonds and elementary district bonds in Phoenix and Tucson, noting a special legislative session was needed for capital outlay for the three state colleges.
Scottsdale police filed a delinquency charge against Shirley Armstrong 36 for giving wine to two 15 year olds. Officers found the youths drinking with Armstrong at her home on Tuesday night. Armstrong is free on a $500 bond. Her 14 year old daughter is in detention for psychological testing and a six year old daughter is in foster care.
United Press International reports negotiations to ease racial tensions resume in Cambridge Maryland as National Guardsmen with fixed bayonets enforce limited martial law. Racial unrest also surges in Fayetteville North Carolina Jackson Mississippi and Danville Virginia with arrests and funeral proceedings for Medgar Evers.

Chamber President Don Chambers urges the Scottsdale Chamber to list city needs and support a joint effort with the city council. He says the board will push for positive action and plans open meetings to tackle acute local problems. Members are asked to submit ideas on where to begin.
